Our Focus

Girl-Child

The girl-child has the right to live safely, with access to education, and in good health during their formative years and as they mature into women. Moreover, girls can change the world if given the proper support during their adolescent years - both as the empowered girls of today and as the workers, mothers, entrepreneurs, mentors, and leaders of tomorrow.

Investing in the girl-child's empowerment today protects their rights.

Moreover, it ensures a more equitable and prosperous future in which half of humanity is an equal partner in solving the problems of climate change, political conflict, economic growth, disease prevention, and global sustainability in the years to come.

ADDA (Adda Girl Education Foundation) has provided educational support programs like scholarship awards, school supplies and mentoring/life skills training. The Foundation has also been working with local communities by empowering parents and guardians on how they can achieve welfare for their girls.

Education

According to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization), Nigeria has approximately 20 million out-of-school children (OOSC), proportionally the highest number of OOSC in the world. Sixty percent (60%) of out-of-school children are in northern Nigeria, while over 10 million OOSC are girls.

The importance of girls' education is passed down from generation to generation. The future mothers of any society can be found in its girls. "Every girl who receives an education is more likely to prioritize education for her children than a girl who does not, it has a positive ripple effect throughout the community and the country" said Taria Al Gurg, the Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares.

ADDA was created to take care of those needs by ensuring that girls are enrolled and retained in school and that they also complete those schools and transit to tertiary institutions.

Leadership

No matter your position, being a leader means seeing the world through a wide-angle and long-term lens Therefore the girl-child must strike a balance between short and long-term thinking and execution to ensure they are prepared for the challenges ahead and those that lie around the corner and down the line.

As leaders or volunteers in our families or organizations, we desperately need people who can recognize the dangers of intimidating girls and speak up against them. They must take the initiative today as they look to the future, make investments, and lay the groundwork.

At ADDA (Adda Girl Education Foundation), we are committed towards empowering girls with education and 21st - century skills to give them a voice and secure influential positions within the public and private sectors.

Our Benefit Package

The ADDA Girls Scholarship is a need-based program to provide educational opportunities for girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The scholarship provides a full range of support. To date, the program has provided scholarships to 150 girls and helped them to attain their academic and career goals. The ADDA Girls' Scholarship is an important part of our commitment to social justice and gender equity, and our contribution to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4 & 5.

We aim to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Scholarship for girls is a step in promoting gender equity. We hope that by providing these scholarships, we can provide these young girls the tools they need to succeed in life.

The ADDA Girls at the basic and secondary schools benefit packages include exercise books, wrappers, stationaries, sandals, school bags and breakfast tokens. At the same time, those at the tertiary levels receive a monthly stipend of N10,000 while school is in session. These are in addition to their school fees being paid.

Scholarship

·       The first set of girls were inaugurated and adopted as Adda Girls (scholars) in a ground-breaking event attended by highly influential dignitaries including, the Wife of the Executive Governor of Gombe State in March 2022.

·       The first set of girls were selected from Nafada LGA (Local Government Areas) of Gombe State. Amongst them are young girls, orphans, dropouts, divorcees, and physically challenged and vulnerable girls. Four girls had dropped out of school after completing junior secondary school but were re-enrolled into senior secondary schools.

·       Three girls had completed secondary school and had good grades in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination but could not further their education due to financial constraints while two secured admissions into Gombe State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Kaltungo, one is awaiting admission at Gombe State College of Education and Legal Studies, Nafada.

·       Adda Girl Education Foundation has also secured admission for an ADDA Girl at Federal Government Girls College, Bajoga. The girl is being sponsored fully to complete her education in a girl-only federal secondary school. The Foundation will follow her through and ensure she becomes a diligent girl who can speak up for her peers. Her fees were paid for by a donation of N200,000 made to us by Justice Hannatu Sankey, the Presiding Judge, Court of Appeal, Gombe State.

·       The Foundation has secured a job for one of our ADDA Girls with the Gombe State Teacher's Service Commission. The Foundation paid for her Postgraduate Diploma in Education, which is a prerequisite for getting the job. We hope she will be posted to Nafada to teach our ADDA Girls at Nafada. One of our core strategies is to help ADDA girls with job placement. The jobs will eventually lead them to attain leadership positions.

Our ADDA Mothers (mothers of the ADDA Girls) have also received N5,000 tokens donated by Justice Halima Shamaki (Acting Chief Judge of Gombe State). The token is expected to help mothers of beneficiaries have a source of income to support their home, so they can allow their girls to concentrate on their studies.
